Loney Dear – Airport Surroundings

Loney Dear is basically a one man band from Sweden. Everything is played and recorded by Emil Svanängen in his bedroom. He only just signed by a major record label for his latest album Dear John (although this is actually his 5th album) and the first single is Airport Surroundings.

It’s classic Loney Dear with a bit of 80’s twist. The “na na na” is still there combined with lots of synths and Warren G’s style rap.  Don’t freak out, it actually sounds nice. It starts with upbeat drums and funky bassline which is quite a departure for Loney Dear, normally he likes to start slow and build up towards the end.

The song is now available on iTunes. Although i have to say, i prefer the album version than the one on the video

Jamie Lidell – Another Day

I saw GMTV Morning advert on TV and was wowed by the song they use. I did a bit of googling and found out it was Jamie Lidell – Another Day. It’s released a year ago, I can’t believe I never heard of him before. No matter how sad you are this song will cheer you up for sure.

Chipmunk – Chip Diddy Chip

I actually thought this song was by Master Shortie, apparently it’s by another guy called Chipmunk. Their style is pretty much the same. This song is like Hip Hop meets Rock – the music is off the hook you can’t help yourself but to dance. Brilliant! I’ll be checking out his other stuff soon.

Take That new single – Greatest Day

When i first heard the song, i thought.. wow a new song from Snow Patrol. But it turned out to be Take That. I actually really like the song, it’s very catchy, uplifting and  has got a nice nice nice melody. Hats off to Gary Barlow, he does write great music.

Friendly Fires – Paris

Friendly Fires’s latest single Paris is like the hottest songs in the UK at the moment (for me anyway), in a way it reminds me of Bloc Party only with better melody. You gotta love it!

Kings of Leon – Sex On Fire

Kalo taun 2007 taunnya The Killers, taun ini kayaknya taunnya Kings of Leon. Jadi salah satu bintang utamanya Glastonbury 2008 dan ngeluarin one of the best albums of 2008 – Only By The Night. What a great album. Single terbarunya yg judulnya Sex On Fire bener-bener lagi on fire di radio2 di UK. Tapi emang gak salah… emang ini lagu keren banget.

Elbow – One Day Like This

Elbow, british band, yg baru baru ini menang Mercury Award untuk kategori Best Album 2008 untuk albumnya The Seldom Seen Kid kembali jadi hits di Inggris. Singlenya yg berjudul One Day Like This lagi ngetop-ngetopnya disini. Di puter di radio Non Stop.

This is a great song. Back to basic, great music with great melody. Aransemen musiknya juga, gak berlebihan dan cocok dengan gaya vocalnya.

Late of The Pier – Heartbeat

Another new Indie band dari Inggris. Late of The Pier. Kalo loe pada tinggal di Inggris mungkin bisa bingung band apa lagi nih yg lagi di puter di radio. Ampir tiap bulan keluar band baru. Sayang nya rata-rata musiknya mirip-mirip semua. Late of The Pier salah satu yg paling baru keluar. Musiknya bisa dibilang mirip aja sama band Indie / New Rave lainnya dan bagi gue mereka paling mirip sama Klaxons – band Inggris yg meraja lela di Inggris taun 2007.

Pertama kali denger single nya mereka Heartbeat dari album Fantasy Black Channel gue langsung suka. Musiknya lumayan cukup rame pakai sound-sound aneh, tapi bagusnya gak bikin bingung dan berkesan maksa. Dan aksen Inggris nya gue suka banget. Gue bisa ngebanyangin pasti seru banget dengerin ini lagu di konser nya mereka. Another great song from this album: Random Firl. Buat yg penasaran, liat aja videonya. Rating: 3.5/5

The Ting Tings – Be The One

Buat yg belom tau The Ting Tings, mereka group band baru dari Inggris yg lagi ngetop banget disini. Semua single yg di release sama mereka jadi hits disini, mulai dari Great DJ, That’s Not My Name (probably their biggest hit so far), Shut Up and Let Me Go dan baru-baru ini mereka nge-release single terbarunya Be The One.

Gue kebetulan suka banget sama 2 single pertamanya tapi kurang impressed sama Shut Up and Let Me Go. Mungkin keseringan diputer di radio, jadi annoying. ha!

Untungnya Be The One musiknya lebih santai, buat gue somehow mengingatkan akan The Cardigans. Enak buat di dengerin pas lagi relax. Rating: 4/5
